Weed vs. Mushrooms: Understanding the Difference for Detroit Customers

Road Runners Detroit carries both cannabis products and mushroom products, and customers frequently ask us to explain the difference. Here's a plain-language breakdown to help you choose the right product for your goals.
Cannabis — whether flower, carts, or concentrates — contains THC, the compound that produces psychoactive effects. Effects vary by strain and consumption method: indica strains tend to be more relaxing, sativas more energizing, and hybrids fall somewhere in between. Effects typically start within minutes when vaping or smoking, and within 30–90 minutes with edibles.
Mushroom products come in two categories on our menu. Functional mushrooms (like our Micro Mind and Urth Roots products) contain no psilocybin and are legal wellness supplements. They're made with lion's mane, cordyceps, reishi, and similar adaptogenic mushrooms known for supporting focus, mood, and energy. Think of them like a natural supplement.
Psilocybin mushrooms (our Slim Shady, Tidal Wave, Bluey Vuitton, and Frostii products) are a different category entirely. These produce psychedelic effects and are used by customers for recreational and introspective purposes. Effects typically last 4–6 hours and vary significantly based on dose and setting.
